This was actually sold before any of the Barber Shop movies or even the barber TV series. Pretty innovative for its time. I kept bugging my friend at Comedy Central about how hilarious my barber shop was. Finally they gave me a few bucks to shoot a cheap presentation. When I found out that the network was interested in the idea I was told that we had a very small window of opportunity. With no prep time, I just called my actual barber (Ali) on very short notice and told him that I wanted to bring a camera and some mics. This was totally unscripted. The outtakes were hilarious. Since that time, three other producers have tried to shoot pilots there.
